It all began suddenly one day when I had a passionate affair with the shadows. Watching the play of light stirred within me a desire to capture the moments, the moods, and the madness surrounding us through photography. --Gauri Chopra. Born and raised in Mumbai, India, Gauri Chopra began her career in photography as a self-taught commercial photographer. She established her company, Fine Balance Photography, in 2003, and photographed for Indian television shows, ad agencies, architects, and celebrities. Her work can be seen in campaigns such as Cadbury, Siemens and television shows like Hatim and Prithviraj Chauhan.
In 2010 Chopra graduated with a BA in Industrial Scientific Photography from the prestigious Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California. A high quality education and the newly acquired knowledge of scientific techniques changed Gauri's perspective towards commercial photography. For one year, she assisted high-speed and commercial photographers in New York such as Richard Pierce, Shinichi Maruyama, and Martin Waugh in Portland.
In addition, Gauri assisted for some of the leading brands in the industry such as Carlsberg, Gucci, Estee Lauder, and Speedo. Before returning back to her hometown in 2011, Gauri published her first book, The Best Sword, which blends her passion for spirituality, nature, and martial art. Gauri Chopra now works in her studio in Mumbai, India, and specializes in Architectural and Advertizing Photography. Her company, Fine Balance Photography, is not only about images, but also about concept, vision, and her love for the art itself.
